Atkinson Secure Children’s Home
Atkinson is a secure children’s home managed by Devon County Council. We provide a secure environment for young people aged 10-17 who have been admitted to our Home under the Section 25 Welfare Secure Order process . This is because they are a serious risk to themselves or others, and/or because they have a history of absconding from previous placements. Atkinson works with a team of professionals, including a full Camhs team to help young people reduce their risk and return to a positive lifestyle in the community.
Atkinson provides a full mental health screening and educational assessment to upon a arrival, help local authorities understand the needs of the children placed in our care. We provide each young person in our care with a ‘Positive Support Plan’ which is developed in coordination with our consultant psychiatrist, psychologist and social worker family therapist. This document is based on the psychological formulation of a young person and focuses on the individual’s presentation’s of behaviour and subsequent needs/support mechanisms. This then informs our home of the best way of supporting a young person and can also be taken with them to their future placement.
Atkinson Secure Children’s Home are really pleased to announce that our latest Ofsted inspection has given the home a ‘Good’ overall rating. The standards have been raised this year and this means it was especially hard for the Atkinson to achieve another ‘Good’. This is the fifth ‘Good’ overall rating the home has achieved in a row and the inspectors commented that the Atkinson was a ‘holistic therapeutic environment’ where all the young people ‘felt safe’.
