Aycliffe Secure Centre
At Aycliffe Secure Centre we provide exceptionally high quality individual care in a purpose designed environment, ensuring all aspects of the young people’s needs are addressed. We provide the best possible care, education, health services and interventions to help young people to reach a point in their lives when they can successfully return to their families or enter independent living. Our accredited education programmes have some of the best results in the secure estate. Young people leaving Aycliffe Secure Centre will have improved opportunities to be better able to reintegrate with their families, engage in education training or employment and engage with the community in a pro-social manner following a planned reintegration programme.
Durham is one of only five local authorities in the country who have received an outstanding overall for safeguarding services by Ofsted and we have been graded as good overall for our looked after children’s services with our capacity to improve judged as outstanding.
We have 6 homes. Two of these are more nurturing homes for young people and 2 homes look after young people who require a more structured environment. The 5th home looks after up to six young people with more complex needs and has a medical and dental facility attached. The 6th home is the step down home where young people who are ready to move back into the community can be offered special support to prepare them for the transition. All homes are furnished to a high standard to enhance group living. Bedrooms are decorated to a high standard, and young people are allowed to personalise these to reflect their individual tastes.
